Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the cells of the breast. It occurs when cells in the breast begin to grow uncontrollably, leading to the formation of tumors. There are various types of breast cancer, the most common being invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular carcinoma. Risk factors for developing breast cancer include gender, age, genetic factors (such as mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes), family history, certain lifestyle factors, and hormone levels.

Symptoms may include a lump in the breast or underarm, changes in breast shape or size, dimpling of the skin, or discharge from the nipple. Early detection through regular screening (such as mammograms) is crucial for effective treatment and better outcomes. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapy, depending on the type and stage of the cancer.

Breast cancer awareness campaigns emphasize the importance of self-examinations and routine screenings to help identify the disease in its early stages.
